His father being a carpenter, Jang Bo-go was able to develop a similar talent in ship-making as well as sailing at an early age. Being sent as a slave to the Tang dynasty, Jang Bo-go became a gladiator, and then a guardian of traders. He continued to rise to the position of rear admiral in the Mu Ryeong Army, then to ambassador of Cheong-Hae-Jin, and finally to ‘Emperor of the Sea’. is a story that depicts not only historical times, but also fatal love. It shows how love can make ordinary people stronger and how love alters their fate.
