After the good genie Eddie goes over the top several times and breaks the code of ethics, he is condemned by the high council of spirits to eke out his existence as a genie until he is freed. When the hotel employee Paula frees him over 100 years later, Eddie has no idea what is in store for him: deprived of his magic powers, he must now fulfil five wishes for his mistress. This turns out to be difficult because Paula initially thinks he's just a crank. In order to convince her otherwise, Eddie grants her first wishes, but due to his lack of magic powers he resorts to harsh methods and thus threatens to come into conflict with the earthly law enforcers.
