In 1916, during World War I, a group of young Americans go to France, for different personal reasons, to fight in the French Air Service, ''L'History of the Armée de l'Air (1909–1942)#World War I (1914–1918)''. These American recruits are under the command of French Captain (land) Georges Thenault, with the veteran Flying ace Reed Cassidy as their mentor.
