In the 1940s, a young Thurgood Marshall travels to conservative Connecticut to team up with local Jewish lawyer Sam Friedman to face one of his greatest challenges — building a defense for black chauffeur Joseph Spell, after wealthy socialite Eleanor Strubing accuses him of sexual assault and attempted murder.
