In 1815, French ex-convict Jean Valjean is released on parole after serving nineteen years for stealing a loaf of bread. Unable to find work, he adopts a new identity, and rises up to prosperity while raising a factory worker’s orphaned daughter, but in the fraught Parisian political climate, all may be lost as the man who has hunted Jean Valjean for decades is hot on his heels.
